The King KN-65 DME is a time-tested workhorse, but it is an old radio. We do not recommend the KN-65 for new installations, due to its size, weight, and older, less-reliable technology.
The best use for the KN-65 is to replace an existing KN-65 when it goes bad, and the budget or schedule do not allow for the installation of a different radio.
The KN-65 mounts out of sight, with only a KI-266 or KI-267 DME Indicator added to your panel. When used with the KI-266, the KN-65 provides distance and groundspeed / time-to-station. When used with a KI-267, the KN-65 provides distance and groundspeed / VOR radial.
