Make certain ATC knows your location! A transponder will transmit your position, but adding an encoder will also tell ATC your altitude. In addition to a transponder, you need either an encoding altimeter or a blind encoder to operate in Mode "C". If you don't already have an encoding altimeter, adding a blind encoder is definitely the easier and less expensive way to add Mode C capability.

This Trans-Cal SSD-120 is a dependable, solid-state blind encoder. It is compatible with most transponders, and may be mounted in any attitude. The most common location is behind your instrument panel. Installation involves connecting the SSD-120 to your static system, and wiring the encoder to your transponder.
If you wish, we can build a custom harness between the encoder and transponder, greatly simplifying the job. (Ask us for a quote!)
