The King KI-228 ADF Indicator is a more advanced version of the standard KI-227 ADF Indicator. Like the KI-227, the KI-228 is used as part of a KR-87 ADF System. The difference is that the KI-228 may be linked to two KR-87 Systems. This allows the KI-228 to show the bearing to two NDBs at the same time, on the same indicator face. Not only does this save money and panel space (compared to installing two KI-227s), but it also requires less interpretation to combine these two bearings into your overall situational awareness.
King's KI-228 is designed to work with two KR-87 systems, each consisting of a KR-87 ADF Receiver and either a KA-44 Blade ADF Antenna or a KA-44B Low-Profile ADF Antenna.
