An RNAV uses a computer to "move" a VOR electronically. This allows direct flight to the new VOR position, as with any other VOR. Your indicator and autopilot will neither know nor care that the VOR has been "moved".
RNAV units also commonly add other systems, such as a NAV Receiver and a Glideslope Receiver. The KNS-80 also adds an internal DME.
